"You don't have to be able to sing or dance, and acting is optional."

Magdalen Players is a community theater group started by St. Mary Magdalen parishioners in 1983. St. Mary Magdalen parish is located in the city of St. Louis, Missouri.  Now in our 25th season, we do one full-length musical every November starting with auditions in August.  Magdalen Players is comprised mainly of St. Mary Magdalen parishioners, but we welcome talent from any parish or religious background.  Stagehands, artists, technicians, singers, and actors are always needed. For more information, contact Magdalen Players president Peggy Dereak @jpdereak@sbcglobal.net.

Sunday August 24, 2-4pm and Tuesday, August 26, 7-9pm- Auditions for speaking parts and chorus; you may come either day, you don't have to come to both.  Please bring 16 bars of  sheet music to sing or you may sing "Happy Birthday" or "Anything Goes" (Paul has the music for these).
**Anyone trying out for Reno must sing "Anything Goes"
Anyone trying out for Hope or Billy must sing "All Through the Night"

If interested in a speaking role, you will be asked to do a cold reading from the script.
Wednesday, August 27, 7pm- DANCE CHORUS AUDITIONS.  Anyone wishing to be in the select dance chorus will need to come to this audition. * Also, anyone trying out for Reno, Bonnie, or the Angels needs to come to this audition also.  The dance chorus will be featured in numerous numbers and must have tap and jazz training.  Please bring tap shoes and jazz or character shoes with you to the audition.  The dance chorus may also be included in the singing chorus if they wish.  You do not need to come to the other auditions if you just want to be in the dance chorus.
The chorus breakdown will be as such this year:
* Children's chorus- 4th grade thru 7th grade (exceptions could be made for taller/older-looking kids)
* Teen chorus- 8th grade thru high school
* Adult chorus- college-age thru adult
We will have singing and dancing rehearsals on Sunday's.  Everyone needs to be available on Sundays.  I will schedule blocking during the week after looking at everyone's availability.  I'm not locked into doing only Monday's and Wednesday's this year.  We may block on Tuesdays and Thursdays if needed.

"Behind the Scenes" positions open:

Assistant Director- Will assist Peggy with rehearsals.
Ad Campaign Chairperson- the ad campaign is in the process of being revamped and simplified.  The person in charge of this would collect ad forms/money, keep a running total of ad money, and send out emails or call people to remind them about ads.  The ads themselves will be sent directly to the printer via email this year thus eliminating  a lot of running back and forth to the printer.
Costume assistant- assist Peggy with costume fittings.  Make sure everyone has appropriate costumes.
Props assistant- assist Peggy with finding props for the show.
Set painting head- make sure painting is executed properly.  Set up crew to paint.  All set painting instructions will come from Peggy.
Set builders- assist Bill Blankinship in building the sets.   (They're very simple this year).  They meet in the evenings at the parish center to build.
